Aaron Taylor-Johnson Offered Role as James Bond: What You Need to Know

The long-standing speculation surrounding who would succeed Daniel Craig as the iconic British spy James Bond may finally be drawing to a close, as per a report from U.K. tabloid The Sun. The publication claimed that Aaron Taylor-Johnson, a former child actor who has made a name for himself in big-budget films, has been formally offered the role. Taylor-Johnson, aged 33, hailing from England, is perhaps most recognized for his portrayal of the lead character in the 2010 film “Kick-Ass” and its subsequent 2013 sequel, “Kick-Ass 2.”

Additionally, he’s known for his role as Pietro Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015), marking his highest-grossing film to date. Furthermore, fans can anticipate his return to the MCU as he takes on the titular character in the upcoming movie “Kraven the Hunter.”

In 2017, Taylor-Johnson clinched the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Tom Ford’s thriller “Nocturnal Animals.” Having commenced his acting journey at the tender age of six, he starred in numerous films during his childhood, including “Shanghai Knights” (2003) and “The Illusionist” (2006).

His repertoire also boasts roles in other major box-office hits such as “Godzilla” (2014), Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” (2020), and “Bullet Train” (2022). Taylor-Johnson recently expressed his appreciation for fans’ support and interest in seeing him as Bond, deeming it a “charming and wonderful” compliment.

According to reports from The Sun, Taylor-Johnson is set to accept the role of Bond and finalize a contract this week. A source informed the tabloid, “Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it.” As fans eagerly await the next Bond installment, questions arise regarding the duration of Taylor-Johnson’s tenure in the role, with producer Barbara Broccoli hinting at commitments spanning 10 to 12 years for the chosen actor.

The anticipation surrounding Craig’s successor intensified following his confirmation in 2019 that his final appearance as Bond would be in the 2021 film “No Time to Die.” Taylor-Johnson emerged as a frontrunner for the role after tabloid reports suggested discussions between him and Broccoli. Previous contenders included Henry Cavill and “Bridgerton” star Regé-Jean Page.

Contrary to speculation, British actor Idris Elba, who was rumored to be a potential candidate, addressed the racial undertones surrounding the casting rumors, expressing his discomfort with how it was perceived. The Bond franchise, spanning over six decades and featuring six actors prior to Taylor-Johnson’s casting, has captivated audiences worldwide with its thrilling espionage narratives. With 25 films released by Eon Productions and two others produced independently, the Bond legacy continues to enthrall audiences globally.
